Amazing Grace Baptist Church (AGBC) was founded in June 1974 under the leadership of Pastor Mitch Ponder, with a mission to share the gospel and reach our community with the love and truth of Jesus Christ.
After a few short-tenured pastors, Pastor Dean Clarkson was called to lead the church in June 1998, faithfully shepherding the congregation for over two decades. Under his leadership, the church grew in both number and spiritual depth.
On August 17, 2014, tragedy struck when a fire — originating from the outside of the building — engulfed the rear of the church. The blaze caused an estimated $1.5 million in damage to the building, devastating both the structure and its contents.
Yet even in the midst of loss, God proved Himself faithful. For several years following the fire, our congregation gathered for worship across the street at the Boys & Girls Club — never missing a Sunday, and never losing heart.
In 2017, we celebrated a major milestone by moving into our newly built church facility, a fresh beginning and a powerful reminder of God’s provision and the strength of a unified church body
After 26 years of dedicated ministry, Pastor Dean Clarkson retired. In September 2024, the church family welcomed Pastor Hunter Handy as our new shepherd. Today, Pastor Handy continues to lead AGBC with a heart for the gospel and a passion for serving our community.
